Gasgoo Munich- General Motors reported its third-quarter 2026 sales in China on October 9, with new energy vehicles accounting for a growing share of deliveries even as its overall sales declined from a year earlier.

Key Takeaways

·GM and its joint ventures delivered more than 358,000 vehicles in China during the quarter. New energy vehicles accounted for over 60% of the total, a record share for a third quarter.

·Deliveries were notably lower than the nearly 470,000 vehicles sold in the third quarter of 2025, when sales rose 10.1% year on year.

·The Buick Electra E7 plug-in hybrid midsize SUV recorded sales of more than 13,000 units, making it one of the brand's main volume contributors.

·SAIC-GM-Wuling remained a major source of GM's NEV sales, led by the Binguo family with more than 57,000 units and the Hongguang MINIEV family with over 34,000 units.

Data and Evidence

The Buick GL8 family sold more than 22,000 units during the quarter. Its cumulative sales had exceeded 2.2 million units as of August this year.

Cadillac delivered more than 9,000 XT5 vehicles in the third quarter. The China-developed XT5 PHEV, hitting the market in September, expanded the brand's electrified lineup and features an assisted-driving system based on Momenta's R7 world model.

Within SAIC-GM-Wuling's portfolio, the Wuling Xing Guang L plug-in hybrid SUV sold nearly 19,000 units, while Huajing S sales approached 22,000. The Binguo Pro contributed nearly 40,000 units to the Binguo family's quarterly total.

Why It Matters

The higher NEV share indicates some progress in GM's product transition in China. However, with total deliveries under pressure, the key test will be whether the changing sales mix can translate into sustained volume growth and improved profitability.

John Roth, GM senior vice president and president of GM China and Asia, said the company's evolving product mix was building momentum for profitable growth in key segments.
