Gasgoo Munich- Infineon Technologies, Volkswagen Group's automotive software company CARIAD and the R&D team of Volkswagen Group China Technology Company ("VCTC") signed an agreement and inaugurated a joint innovation application center in Hefei on October 19.
Key Takeaways
·The center formalizes the companies' cooperation through a long-term platform covering the development process from automotive chip requirements to mass production, replacing their previous project-based approach.
·Its scope includes semiconductor requirements definition, reference-design development, system-level validation and support for production deployment.
·The partners plan to combine Infineon's automotive microcontrollers, power devices and wide-bandgap semiconductor technologies with Volkswagen Group China's next-generation vehicle platforms and China Electronic Architecture (CEA). They aim to align chip and vehicle requirements earlier in the development process.
·Planned work will focus on vehicle electrical and electronic architectures, domain controllers and onboard power supplies, including chip evaluation, reference designs, hardware-in-the-loop testing, reliability validation and failure analysis.

Development scope
The collaboration moves joint development between the automaker and semiconductor supplier upstream to the chip-requirements stage. The partners expect this approach to better match components with the needs of vehicles developed for China and support faster iteration of automotive electronics.
Development work will use products including Infineon's AURIX microcontrollers and automotive power modules, with adaptation for Volkswagen Group China's CEA electrical and electronic architecture.
