SAIC Motor starts construction of Ningde PV production base
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC Motor officially started the construction of its PV (passenger vehicle) manufacturing base in Ningde, Fujian Province (hereinafter, Ningde base) on April 28. This is the fourth plant of SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle following the Lingang plant in Shanghai, Pukou plant in Nanjing and the plant in Zhengzhou, Henan province.
The Ningde base, covering an area of 2200mu (around 1,466 thousand square meters) and involving an investment of around RMB 5 billion, is slated to start production in 2019. Reportedly, the new base will mainly manufacture the NEV models under SAIC Motor PV, including Roewe and MG.
The Ningde base is set to serve southeastern coastal areas in China and influence neighboring Southeast Asia auto market. The automaker will exercise its core technology merits in vehicle manufacturing as well as battery, electric motor and electric control and rely on the regional advantages of Ningde and Fujian province to accelerate the construction of the Ningde base, according to Chen Hong, chairman of SAIC Motor.
SAIC Motor delivered around 6.93 million vehicles throughout 2017. Particularly, both Roewe and MG achieved year-on-year sales growth exceeding 60%, while the deliveries of NEVs skyrocketed 150% from the previous year. Currently, SAIC Motor has quite a few vehicle production bases across China, such as Shenyang, Yantai, Qingdao, Nanjing, Shanghai, Ningbo, Chongqing, and so on. Meanwhile, the company also has vehicle bases in Thailand, Indonesia and India.
