GM Q2 deliveries reach 858,344 units in China

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- General Motors and its joint ventures delivered 858,344 vehicles in China in the second quarter, edging up 0.7% over the previous year. In the first half of 2018, GM deliveries in China grew 4.4% on an annual basis to 1,844,396 units. Out of all brands, the Cadillac and Baojun brands achieved record deliveries for the second quarter, while Chevrolet continued to post double-digit growth.

In terms of Cadillac brand, its sales in the second quarter reached 48,712 units with a YoY increase of 19%. As the brand's best-seller, the XT5 luxury SUV posted a sales of more than 17,000 units, up 14% from a year earlier. The XTS luxury sedan sales surged 42% to nearly 14,000 units. Deliveries of the CT6 prestige sedan soared 49% to over 3,700 units.

As to Chevrolet brand, its deliveries advanced 22% to 131,895 units. Sales of the Malibu family, Chevrolet's flagship sedan, jumped 29% to nearly 30,000 units. Chevrolet's best-selling nameplate, the Cavalier, posted a sales surge of 54% to nearly 49,000 units. Sales of the Equinox global SUV soared 88% to over 19,000 units.

When it comes to Buick, its deliveries totaled 230,454 units in the second quarter. Specifically, deliveries of the GL8 family topped 37,000 units, driven by robust sales of the new-generation MPV.

Baojun sales rose 6% to 198,986 units. To be specific, sales of the Baojun 510, the brand's best-seller as well as one of the most popular SUVs in China, reached over 71,000 units. Deliveries of the Baojun 310 family surged 50% to nearly 38,000 units, thanks to the robust sales growth of the Baojun 310 wagon, which contributed about 60% of the family's total sales. The Baojun 360, a new six-seat MPV for commuting and family use, achieved sales of nearly 13,000 units after it was launched on May 10.

In the second quarter, Wuling deliveries achieved a 3.1% YoY increase to 248,297 units, securing the brand's leadership in the mini-commercial vehicle segment. The Hong Guang MPV family, Wuling's best-selling nameplate, delivered nearly 98,000 units. Nearly 25% sales were contributed by the popular Hong Guang S3.

In the second half, the automaker is slated to add 10 new and refreshed models, two-thirds of the total for the entire year. Besides, GM will focus on segments with the strongest customer demand, including SUVs, MPVs and luxury vehicles.
