Shanghai (Gasgoo)- According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), China's PV wholesale volume in June reached 1,713,171 units, falling 8.4% from the previous year. Year-on-year decline in monthly car, SUV and MPV sales shrank 6.6, 13.8 and 0.4 percentage points respectively over the previous month (PVs hereby refer to China's locally-produced cars, MPVs, SUVs and minibuses).
For the first half of the year, PV wholesale volume in the world's largest auto market slid 14.0% over a year earlier to 10,131,845 units.
The Vehicle Inventory Alert Index (VIA) in June was at 50.4%, a year-on-year decrease of 8.8 percentage points and a month-on-month drop of 3.6 percentage points. This was the 18th month in a row exceeding the official warning threshold.
Car dealers slashed prices in past several weeks, according to local media reports, to clear their inventory of vehicles that don't satisfy the new stricter emission standard. Besides, dealers also strengthened the promotion to fulfill their semi-annual sales goal.
The top 3 PV models by wholesale volume in June were entirely possessed by car models—the Lavida, the Sylphy and the Corolla—which all suffered double-digit decrease from the previous year. Four SUV models entered the top 10 list, while no MPV model was included.
China saw its car wholesale volume in June fall 11.3% over the previous year. From January to June, cumulative car sales in this country declined 13.2% to 4,948,837 units.
Compared with the performance for May, the Lavida still maintained the championship on the top 10 car model list by June wholesale volume. The Sylphy moved up to the runner-up place, while the Corolla dropped one place to the third.
The BAIC EU Series stepped into the top 10 car model list for the first time, posting a magnificent year-on-year surge of 1,113%. The EV model’s robust growth should be partly ascribed to the already-closed three-month grace period before the official implementation of new NEV subsidy policy that promoted consumers to buy NEVs in recent weeks.
The country's SUV wholesale volume amounted to 735,923 units in June (-0.9%) and totaled 4,343,491 units for the first two quarters (-13%).
InJune，the Haval H6 was still the best-selling SUV model, posting a 2.9% year-on-year increase. The Tiguan got a remarkable sales growth of 34% thanks to dealers' clearance of car inventory.
GAC's Trumpchi GS4 got into the top 10 SUV model list for the first time this year. Sales of the Trumpchi GS4 jumped 25% over the year-ago period to 17,785 units, accounting for 40% of GAC Motor's total sales in June.
