Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC Volkswagen celebrated in last October the first spade cut for a new plant in Anting, Shanghai, which will be Volkswagen’s first factory specifically designed for the its Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB), the group's first all-electric automotive modular platform developed for mass production.

The facility is scheduled to start production by 2020 with a planned annual capacity of 300,000 vehicles. It will produce new BEV models of SAIC Volkswagen, including medium- and large-sized all-electric SUVs as well as battery systems, said the German auto group.

The Anting-based plant is slated to roll out three MEB-based EV models, according to an inside document from SAIC Volkswagen. Two of them should be the ID. ROOMZZ and the Skoda VISON iV, which have been unveiled at the Auto Shanghai 2019.

With its 82-kWh battery, the ID. ROOMZZ boasts a NEDC-rated range of up to 475km and can be recharged to 80% of its capacity through a 150kW (DC) fast charging system within around half an hour.

Besides, two electric motors can continuously mobilize 225kW (electric 4MOTION) of system power. The ID. ROOMZZ can sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.6 seconds and run at a top speed of up to 180km/h (electronically regulated).
