China’s private car parc exceeds 200 mln for first time
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China’s car parc amounted to 260 million by the end of 2019, 21.22 million more than that at the end of 2018, while motor vehicle population reached 348 million, according to the China’s Ministry of Public Security.
Through 2019, 32.14 million vehicles were newly registered in China, 25.78 million of which were cars. The number of licensed vehicle drivers in the country totaled 435 million, of which there were 397 million car drivers. In 2019, 29.43 million new drivers were licensed, comprising 6.76% of the total in China.
As of 2019, car population of 66 cities exceeded 1 million in China and 30 of them owned more than 2 million cars. Car parc in 11 cities—Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Suzhou, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Shenzhen, Xi 'an, Wuhan, Dongguan and Tianjin— surpassed 3 million.
As reported, the volume of micro and small-sized private passenger cars stood at 207 million. The past five years saw an average annual growth of 19.66 million and the year of 2019 witnessed its population of over 200 million for the first time. The new energy car parc reached 3.81 million by 2019 with an increase of over 1 million for two consecutive years, contributing 1.46% of the total car volume. Of that, 3.10 million all-electric cars hit on the road, accounting for 81.19% of the total new energy car population.
