Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD named Kevin Wale, former president of General Motors (GM) China, as a senior adviser to the electric car maker’s chairman, it said on January 13. The automaker said in a statement that Wale will counsel BYD on automobile marketing and brand building as well as sales service improvement.

Wale suggested electrified vehicles and other automotive products using new technologies will be key growth points in the future. China, the world's largest auto market, he said, will have significant roles to play. He will support BYD, an innovator in electrification and customer-centric technologies, by virtue of his experience.

In recent years, BYD has signed agreements with international giants such as Daimler and Toyota, pioneering Sino-foreign reciprocal cooperation on technology. In addition, it set up three subsidiaries specializing in mould, automotive tech and auto power tech respectively—in December last year to further accelerate the integration of internal upstream resources for a stable tech supply system.

Besides, the Chinese carmaker appreciates talents from different cultural backgrounds. Wolfgang Egger, a car designer from Germany, former Audi’s head designer, is currently head designer of BYD. JuanMa López, Michele Jauch-Paganetti, previous members of Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz respectively, now work for BYD as head of exterior & interior design.
