Horizon Robotics, Continental AG to team up on high-level ADAS, driving automation

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese artificial intelligence chip designer Horizon Robotics and the German automotive parts manufacturer Continental AG signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the end of September to carry out in-depth cooperation in high-level ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) and driving automation with China as the core market, Horizon Robotics announced on September 30.

According to the MoU, Horizon Robotics will make use of its core competency in automotive-grade AI processors and AI algorithms to assist Continental AG with the development of innovative and industry-leading intelligent driving solutions, contributing to the innovative breakthrough for global automotive industry and embracing the era of smart vehicles.

“By integrating Horizon's SoC incl. AI empowered detection software into certain ADAS product lines, the new systems will be characterized by well-known German-engineering quality standards combined with best-in-class vision performance for Chinese roads in spite of its low energy consumption and affordable price,” said Frank Petznick, Executive Vice President of the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems business unit at Continental.

Enno Tang, President and CEO of Continental China, said: “as the world's largest market in terms of automobile production and sales volumes, China is facing fast-growing demands for automotive intelligent and connected technologies. Continental AG attaches great importance to its local research and development activities complying with ‘In the Market, For the Market’ in China. Horizon’s automotive grade Journey™ processors have been verified by the market with proven mass production capabilities. Thus, we believe that both parties can work together to create high-performance, high-quality and safe intelligent driving solutions for driving scenarios in China.”

Moreover, on September 27, Horizon Robotics and BDStar Intelligent & Connected Vehicle Technology Co., Ltd. (BiCV), entered into a strategic partnership as both parties intend to make joint efforts to offer automotive industry the highly integrated smart cockpit and intelligent driving solutions with great performance and scalability.
