Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Evergrande Hengchi New Energy Vehicle (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd. is going to construct an auto parts manufacturing base in Songjiang District of Shanghai with an annual capacity of 100,000 units/sets, according to the Environmental Information Release Platform of Shanghai Enterprises and Institutions.

The yet-to-be-built facilities include workshops for such processes as stamping, car body manufacturing, painting and color register, as well as an engineering technology center, a technology exhibition center and a reception center.

Upon completion of the construction, those facilities will be mainly used to produce large-sized outer panels, core stamping parts, car body assembly and other types of auto parts.

The Shanghai auto parts base would provide components for Evergrande Auto's complete vehicle production, said Bai Yiyang, an analyst at CMB International's research institute.

Evergrande Auto announced earlier this month its Shanghai and Guangzhou manufacturing bases had kicked off trial production. The company plans to start the volume production of its Hengchi-branded vehicles in the second half of 2021. Both Shanghai and Guangzhou plants are expected to produce one vehicle per minute when their capacities become fully operational.

Shortly before the announcement about its two plants, the automaker launched the all-new logo for its Hengchi brand that conveys its ambition to build itself into a world-class EV manufacturer.

On August 3, Evergrande Health announced the first phase of six models under the Hengchi brand. According to the naming rules the company unveiled in mid-Nov., the name of Hengchi model will be composed of the brand name, a number and two letters. The model will be numbered according to the order of hitting the market. The first letter indicates the price range—“L” is for the “Luxury” priced below 250,000 yuan ($37,990); “S” is for the “Super Luxury” priced between 250,000 yuan ($37,990) and 500,000 yuan ($75,975); “F” is for the “Flagship” model priced at or above 500,000 yuan ($75,975). The second letter means the body style---the “S”, “X” and “M” stands for sedan, SUV and MPV respectively. For instance, the “Hengchi 8 SX” was a super luxury SUV and the eighth model Hengchi puts onto the market.

Evergrande Auto said it aims to build production capacity for 1 million electric vehicles by 2025, and for 5 million units by 2035. It is synchronously developing 14 new models (including the six that were launched), covering cars, SUVs and MPVs with segments spanning compact to large sized.
