BYD sees auto sales soar 68.44% year on year in January

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD Company Limited (BYD) announced its new vehicle sales reached 42,401 units in January 2021, shooting up 68.44% year on year, while falling 24.72% month on month.

New energy vehicle (NEV) sales in Jan. zoomed up 182.88% from a year earlier to 20,178 units, including 14,463 all-electric PVs (+181.16% YoY) and 5,408 plug-in electric PVs (+188.27%).

The company also sold 22,223 oil-fueled vehicles last month, a year-over-year growth of 23.19%. Both sedan and SUV segments scored double-digit increase.

According to local media reports, BYD aims to sell 400,000 NEVs in 2021, which are split on a fifty-fifty basis by BEVs and PHEVs (DM). If the goal was officially announced, the company needs to sell nearly 380,000 NEVs in the following 11 months to fulfill the target.

The planning seen by local media outlets also reveals BYD intends to roll out 5 to 6 new NEV models in 2021, embracing the Qin PLUS and the Song PLUS powered by the DM-i hybrid technology, as well as the Song MAX and the Song Pro, which all come with two powertrain choices—DM and EV.

After launching the BEV-focused e platform in 2018, BYD is about to release the EV 2.0 full electric platform this year that adopts many new technologies like SiC power module and heat pump. The first car model based on the EV 2.0 is said to be named “Dolphin” and targets younger consumers.

The automaker recently announced it divided its automobile business into four business groups, which focus on the sales businesses of the Dynasty and the e series, the branding & public relations, and after-sales services.

Zhao Changjiang, general manager of BYD Auto Sales Co.,Ltd., will be transferred to the premium brand that is on the drawing board.

BYD said the revamp would help the company improve its brand construction, production planning and marketing business, and offer users better experience.
