Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China expects the vehicles used in the public service area to be fully electrified and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) to be commercially viable by 2035, according to an action plan drawn up by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

To achieve the goal, the MIIT will further popularize electrified vehicles in such areas as bus, city logistics service and urban sanitation.

The government also wishes to drive the shopping of electrified private cars by encouraging electrification in public service field. Thus, relevant competent departments will launch the project for local governments applying for the pilot cities of fully electrification and hammer out supporting policies like rewards and subsidies.

Sun Hengzheng, an expert of new energy vehicle industry, said the trials to fully electrify vehicles for public services will require better deployment of local EV charging and battery swapping facilities. As government cars, taxis, buses, and cars for ride-hailing and logistics services have different requirements for charging and battery swapping conditions, their unique traits must be taken into consideration when designing the energy supply network, and deciding how to deploy different types of facilities like slow charging, fast charging, fast battery swap, and high-power charging.

He added the promotion of electrified vehicles for public services should be in line with local charging and battery swapping deployment, so as to maximize economy and operational efficiency.
