At the NIO Day held last week, the startup launched the ET7, its first sedan model and first smart electric flagship sedan with autonomous driving capability.

NIO said the preorder of the ET7 would kick off from then on via the NIO App, and the vehicle is expected for launch in the first quarter 2022.

The ET7 features NIO's latest NAD (NIO Autonomous Driving) technology including NIO Aquila super sensing system and NIO Adam super computing platform. NIO said NAD offers a safer and more relaxing point-to-point experience of autonomous driving, gradually covering use scenarios from expressways, urban, parking to battery swapping.

Adopting 4 NVIDIA DRIVE Orin SoCs, NIO Adam boasts a total computing power of 1,016 TOPS, which is 7 times that of Tesla's FSD.  The computer consists of 48 A78 CPU cores, 256 3rd-generation Tensor cores, 8,096 CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) cores and 68 billion transistors.

The super sensing system, NIO Aquila, comes with 33 high-performance sensing units, including 11 high-resolution cameras of 8 megapixels and one ultra-long-range high-resolution LiDAR, and is able to generate 8G data per second.

At the NIO Day, NIO also launched its second-generation battery swapping station which can accommodate 13 batteries and allow for up to 312 swap services per day. The startup said it expects the number of its battery swapping stations in China to total 500 by 2021.
