Polestar Chengdu Production Center starts construction and will be completed in 2018

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- As Volvo’s high-performance electrification brand, Polestar was established on October 17th this year in Shanghai, and would construct a new production center in Chengdu. Reporters learn from official news that Polestar high-performance electric vehicle project has officially started construction in Chengdu Tianfu New Area New Industrial Park and is expected to complete in nine months.

Li Donghui, Volvo Global Director, said that, “The oncoming Polestar project marks the cooperation between Geely Holdings Group, Volvo Auto and Sichuan Province, together with Chengdu City steps into a new level. The project, based on intelligent manufacturing, introduces world-class manufacturing techniques and equipment to make a modern, digitalized and intelligent factory to produce high-performance electric vehicles on the basis of European leading techniques and export them to global markets. The factory will also become one of the most environmentally-friendly auto factories, aiming to obtain the globally famous green building evaluation system LEED golden certificate.”

Invested with RMB 5 billion by a joint-venture company established by Volvo Auto and Geely Holdings Group, Polestar Chengdu production center is designed by a Norway construction company Snøhetta. The production center will be complete in the middle of 2018 and then begin module equipment and pre-production test. The center will also construct a consumer experience center and test-driving lane.

Polestar first model Polestar 1 will be put into production at the first half of 2019 in Chengdu Production Center with an annual capacity of 500 units. Polestar 1 is a four-seat GT Coupe using “electric high-performance hybrid power” driving system with a maximum power of 600 horse power and peak torque of 1,000 NM. It’s also the first model equipping with Öhlins CESi system in the world. The new model has a cruise mileage of 150KM in blade electric mode, the longest among all PHEV models in auto market.
