Tesla denies hiring staff members from SAIC with triple salaries for Shanghai plant

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Aug. 5, Tesla firstly released their urgently-employed posts on its official WeChat, including EPC engineering director, project manager on government issues, civil engineer, mechanical designer, legal consultants, and senior finance manager.

According to the person who briefed this matter, Tesla's Shanghai plant has started to attract SAIC's staff members in senior positions with high salaries that triple their current salaries in SAIC. It is also rumored that a bunch of technical staff in SAIC had leaved SAIC for Tesla Shanghai plant.

However, Tesla denied the rumor and replied that it indeed has posted a number of roles at its website, but the post descriptions didn't showed the specified number of salaries. Moreover, they hadn't recruited any employees from SAIC.

Elon Musk previously disclosed that Tesla needs around $2 billion to construct its China-based plant, and will seek financial support from Chinese local government. Industry insiders analyzed that the financing method is quite a risk. It is also rumored that CFDL is likely to finance Tesla with an undisclosed amount of funding.

As planned, Tesla Shanghai plant will start construction in next several quarters. It is expected that the first batch of investments will be prepared in 2019. The annual production capacity of Tesla Shanghai plant is expected to reach 250,000 vehicles and battery packs. The first batch of EVs is expected to roll off the production line within three years.
