Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Li Shufu, delegate to the NPC and chairman of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, announced two proposals during the Two Sessions, China's biggest political meeting of the year. One of highlights about his proposals is to promote the popularization of methanol fuel and methanol-powered vehicles.
He said the scale application of methanol fuel and methanol-powered vehicles has not been promoted yet mainly because of industry's misgiving on the usage of methanol fuel and inadequate policy support. Meanwhile, the nature of the methanol fuel has not been understood scientifically and objectively enough.
To promote popularization of methanol fuel, he suggested that the methanol fuel's legal status as a new type of clean and renewable energy should be clarified on the national level and it should be listed in the catalogue of clean fuel. In addition, the management of market access and operation of methanol-powered vehicles should be strengthened at the same time.
As to technology innovation, he said government should increase the number of national-level science & technology special programs. Besides, government and industry should make joint effort to shore up the development and application of multiple clean energy technologies, such as the methanol-powered extended-range vehicles that boasts high thermal efficiency and environmentally friendly attribute.
Moreover, he also advised the government and the industry to promote methanol fuel's scale application in thermodynamics and power fields, to establish the testing and checking standards for different types of motor vehicle emissions and to scientifically and objectively build relevant environmental protection standards.
