Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On May 30, a ro-ro cargo ship loaded with 328 units of the WM EX5 SUV departed from the Port of Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province to the Port of Tianjin to satisfy the dramatically increasing demands from users in Beijing, Tianjin and surrounding places, according to WM Motor.
This is the first time for the Chinese EV startup to deliver vehicles by both sea and land transportation as part of efforts to further explore new logistics methods under new retail modes.
NEV demands in China have been continuously rising despite an overall vehicle sales downturn. According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), the Jan.-Apr. sales of the locally-produced new energy passenger vehicles (only including sedans, SUVs and MPVs) in this country surged 83.8% year on year to 345,000 units. Amid the general robust growth momentum, WM Motor achieved a total registration volume of 5,341 EX5 SUVs for the first four months. The EV maker said it has so far gained 7% of market share in China's all-electric SUV domain.
Using sea transportation, the automaker is able to deliver hundreds of even thousands of cars simultaneously with higher transporting efficiency and less quality loss than using trucks, which fairly fits into the fast-increasing demands over smart electric vehicles, WM Motor added.
It is reported that the EV maker is going to hand over more vehicles to users in South China by sea.
