Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BAIC Group's NEV arm BJEV plans to purchase roughly 1,500 sets of fast-swapping lithium battery system from Beijing Pride Power System Technology Limited (Beijing Pride Power) to support its container-type PV battery swapping stations, BJEV’s parent company BAIC BluePark New Energy Technology Co.,Ltd announced on August 16.
The transaction, involving a value worth no more than RMB118 million, is to be completed in several batches, said BAIC BluePark.
The announcement showed that Beijing Pride Power is an affiliated company of BAIC BJEV, but there were no other transaction between them during the past 12 months in addition to the latest acquisition.
The Beijing-based EV manufacturer said the latest purchase of supporting batteries will be conducive to strengthening the construction of regional battery-switch stations, promoting the application of battery swapping in a wider area and increasing BJEV's market share and influence in Beijing's auto market.
As one of the sturdiest supporters to promote battery swapping model in China, BAIC BJEV recently handed over 800 EV taxi equipped with switchable batteries to Beijing-based taxi companies and is scheduled to raise the number to 2,000 as of August this year.
BAIC BJEV has so far operated up to approximately 13,000 taxis powered by switchable batteries across 15 cities in China and deployed a total of 148 battery swapping stations countrywide, according to figure reported by local media outlets (Photo source: BAIC BJEV).
