Changan New Energy denies rumor about suspending sales of 3 BEV models

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Changan New Energy currently possesses four pure electric models, namely, the EADO EV460, the EADO ET, the Benben EV360 and the CS15 EV400.

Recently, a local media outlet said due to the decline in subsidies and the market downturn, there is only the EADO EV460 currently available for sale, while sale of the other three models has been temporarily suspended, purportedly citing a source from Yang Dayong, general manager of Chongqing Changan New Energy Automobile Technology Co., Ltd.

However, the report was afterwards denied by Changan New Energy, who stated Yang had not received such interview and had never uttered relevant information.

At the end of June, Changan Automobile said all of its pure electric models would still be sold at the previous after-subsidy price even the subsidy would be slashed after a three-month grace period.

For instance, the Benben EV360, the entry-level model with a NEDC-rated range of 301km, was previously priced at RMB69,800-81,800 ($ 9,848- $11,541) with the green-car subsidy, and would be sold at the same price after the transition period.

The latest figure from Changan Automobile shows that in August 2019, 1,449 NEVs were sold and 28,083 units were sold from January to August this year, accounting for 36.6% of 2019 sales goal (76,500 units), which have already been 11.87% lower than its 2018 actual sales. 

Changan Automobile aims to sell 350,000 NEVs in 2020 and 1.16 million units by 2025. Based on the current performance, there is still a long way to go for the automaker.
