NIO officially launches NIO EC6, third production model

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Nio, a pioneer in China’s premium electric vehicle market, launched the EC6, the all-new ES8 and its 100kWh battery pack at NIO Day 2019, the annual celebration for the automaker and its friends. For this year, the slogan is “Believe in Better”.

The EC6, deemed as the coupe version of the ES6, is the third production model of NIO, which comes with a panoramic-view window and is expected to compete against such vehicles as the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and Tesla’s Model Y.

The new model features two versions, the sport one and the performance one. With the 100kWh battery pack, a 160kW PM motor and a 240kW induction motor, the performance version of the coupe SUV can offer up to 615 kilometers of NEDC range, targeting 0-100km within 4.7 seconds. However, NIO didn’t disclose the price of the new model, just saying it will reveal the configurations and price next July. Preorders are currently open and the delivery will start from next September.

NIO also unveiled the new version of the ES8, with updates in exterior, interior, power, range and intelligent feature. eaturing a 160kW permanent magnet motor and a 240kW induction motor with an intelligent electric all-wheel-drive system, the all-new ES8 holds up to 544hp and 725Nm under the hood, boasting high performance and long range.The range options have been improved to 415 km (70kWh battery) and 580 km (100kWh battery). With 7 color options, the new model has a price range from RMB468,000 (about 66,901 dollars )to RMB624,000 (about 89,201 dollars). The new vehicle will be delivered from April, 2020.

Besides, NIO also released the 100kWh liquid-cooled thermostatic battery pack and 20kW DC Power Home. The delivery of the new battery pack is estimated to begin in the last quarter of 2020, increasing the NEDC range to 600+km. After the launching of the 70kWh battery pack in 2018, NIO is committed to making “Battery as a Service" with upgrading in its battery capacity every year to satisfy users’ demands. 

NIO delivered 2,528 vehicles, 2,067 ES6s and 461 ES8s in November, representing the fourth consecutive month of delivery growth. As of November 30, 2019, aggregate deliveries of the Company’s ES6 and ES8 reached 28,743 vehicles, of which 17,395 vehicles were delivered in 2019 (photo source: NIO).
