Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Over the next five years, SAIC Motor aims to roll out at least ten FCV (fuel cell vehicle) models and hit over 10,000 units in both annual FCV outputs and sales, representing more than 10% share in China's FCV market, according to the “Hydrogen Strategy” the automaker announced on September, the first-of-its-kind to China's automobile industry.

Under the newly-unveiled strategy, the company also expects the market value of Shanghai Hydrogen Propulsion Technology Co., Ltd. (SHPT), a fuel cell technology developer mainly owned by SAIC Motor, to grow to over ten billion yuan, and strives to form a fuel cell R&D and operation team with over 1,000 staff members by the same deadline.

At the same time, the Chinese biggest automaker launched the MAXUS EUNIQ7, which is purportedly the world's first fuel cell MPV model.

As the country's first full-power direct-drive FCV model, the EUNIQ 7 is equipped with SAIC's third-generation fuel cell system PROME P390 of Hydrogen Propulsion that outputs up to 130kW, and applies a 70MPa hydrogen cylinder hydrogen supply system, which is lighter and has a larger capacity over the 35MPa, according to SAIC Motor.

The EUNIQ 7 fuel cell vehicle has a stack power of 115kW and a volumetric power density of 3.1kW/L. Besides, the model has also successfully overcome the industry problem of low-temperature cold start and can achieve normal operations at -30℃. Hydrogenation of a 6.4-kg high-pressure hydrogen cylinder can be completed within three minutes and comprehensive cruising range is 605 kilometers.

According to SAIC Motor's introduction, the EUNIQ 7 carries the new-generation air filtration system that is able to effectively purify PM2.5, fine dust particles and other air pollutants.

The automaker will endeavor to sell over 30,000 sets of SAIC's self-developed fuel cell system as of 2025, and is ambitious to become a FCV manufacturer with completely independent intellectual property rights and the ability to vie with global peers, according to SAIC Motor's planning (photo source: SAIC Motor's WeChat account).
