At the Auto Shanghai 2021, GAC Aion exhibited the refreshed version of the Aion S. According to the patent images released by China's MIIT, the new Aion S features a more avant-garde look than that of the existing model. At the front, the large-sized grille coupled with Y-shaped headlights adds sportier personality to the vehicle.

As to the side view, the three-dimensional essence is highlighted by a floating roof design and dual waistlines. At the rear, the new Aion S carries a newly-designed light strip that runs across the width of the car.
The new Aion S measures 4,810mm long, 1,880mm wide and 1,515mm tall—42mm longer and 15mm lower than the outgoing model. Its wheelbase spans 2,750mm, the same as that of the existing Aion S.
The new Aion S gets power from the combined effort of a ternary-lithium battery pack that enables a NEDC-rated range of 510km and a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) that pumps out up to 150kW and 350 N·m. It will vie with such models as the BYD Qin PLUS EV and the Geely Geometry A Pro.
