Changan Auto Aug. sales drop 7.19% MoM
Beijing (Gasgoo)- Changan Automobile sold 165,143 vehicles in August, down 2.52% year on year and dropped 7.19% month on month. In the first eight months, its cumulative sales raised 32.49% compared to last year, to over 1.5 million vehicles.
Sales of the group’s self-owned brands fell 9.74% month over month to 120,753 vehicles, 84,208 of which were passenger vehicles.
Monthly sales of Changan Ford, the joint venture between Changan Automobile and Ford Motor, surged 48.97% from the previous year to 30,135 units, representing a 16.07% increase month on month. However, sales of its other joint venture, Changan Mazda, halved year on year with only 5,456 vehicles sold in August, indicating a 45.47% decline versus the sales results in July.
Changan Mazda acquiring FAW-Mazda (jointly owned by FAW Group and Mazda Motor) in whole may not have a favorable impact on vehicle sales.
In August, with 8,790 vehicles sold by Changan Mazda and 3,738 vehicles delivered by FAW-Mazda, the total retail volume of Mazda Motor amounted to 12,528 vehicles, fell 27.7% year on year. In addition, the Mazda brand has already started down a slippery slope, as the brand’s China sales peaked in 2017 at 300,000 vehicles and declined 30% to 210,000 vehicles in 2020.
