Gasgoo Munich- A proposed joint venture between BYD (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. and iCar Group Co., Ltd. has entered a public comment period, according to the Zhejiang Provincial Administration for Market Regulation. The consultation window runs from November 4 to 13, 2026, marking BYD's latest push into the charging network space.
The new entity will focus on investing in, building, and operating charging networks. Analysts see the move as a way for BYD to make charging more convenient for its own EVs while testing commercial models for standalone charging operations.

BYD has already directed multiple investments into charging infrastructure through subsidiaries like FinDreams Battery and BYD Auto Industry. Teaming up with iCar Group signals a deeper effort to consolidate charging network resources.
BYD has been ramping up activity in charging infrastructure. In August, it partnered with Shell to build out charging networks across Europe. The following month, it signed strategic pacts with PetroChina and Sinopec to deploy ultra-fast chargers at their gas stations. The iCar Group venture marks another major step in BYD's domestic charging push.
Charging networks are a critical piece of the EV ecosystem. As 800-volt architectures become commonplace, the speed of ultra-fast charger deployment directly shapes the user experience. BYD is accelerating its network rollout through a mix of self-building, partnerships, and investments — laying the infrastructure backbone needed to hit its global sales targets.
