The milestone makes BYD the first automaker globally to achieve cumulative production of 17 million NEVs. The vehicle selected to mark the occasion was the newly launched Seal 08, the flagship sedan of the company's Ocean Series.
The achievement comes as BYD continues to expand both domestically and internationally. According to company data, the automaker delivered 1,808,511 vehicles during the first half of 2026. Overseas sales of passenger vehicles and pickup trucks reached 789,367 units, representing a 68% year-on-year increase and highlighting the company's accelerating global growth strategy.
Hitting the market on July 2, the Seal 08 is priced between 196,900 yuan and 239,900 yuan. The sedan debuts BYD's second-generation Blade Battery alongside the company's latest FLASH charging technology, which the automaker says can deliver a substantial recharge in five minutes and a full charge in around nine minutes under specified conditions. The battery-electric version offers a CLTC-rated driving range of up to 905 kilometers. Every Seal 08 comes standard with BYD's God's Eye LiDAR-based advanced driver assistance system. BYD also says the model is covered by its official accident indemnity program for users of the urban Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) and intelligent parking functions. Under the program, the automaker will provide unlimited compensation for qualifying accidents that occur during compliant use of the features, without affecting customers' commercial auto insurance premiums in the following year.
Looking ahead, BYD said it will continue investing in both electrification and intelligent vehicle technologies while accelerating the rollout of its charging infrastructure. The company plans to build 20,000 FLASH charging stations across China by the end of 2026, supporting the wider adoption of high-performance electric vehicles and strengthening its integrated NEV ecosystem.
