Gasgoo Munich-The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently published the new product catalog for the 409th batch of road motor vehicle manufacturers and products. The BYD Fangchengbao Shark plug-in hybrid pickup has completed its domestic filing. This signals that the new energy pickup—already on sale overseas—is poised to enter the Chinese market.

Built by BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd., the filing positions the model as a plug-in hybrid multi-purpose pickup with a clean, practical design. Data shows the vehicle measures 5,457 mm long, 1,971 mm wide, and 1,925 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,260 mm. It carries a curb weight of 2,710 kg and a rated load capacity of 460 kg. Designed to seat five (2+3), it also supports a towing capacity of up to 2,500 kg, bridging the gap between family use, outdoor adventures, and light commercial work.
Under the hood, the new model features a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system with a maximum net power of 135 kW and a displacement of 1,497 ml. It meets China VI emission standards and hits a top speed of 180 km/h. Equipped with front and rear permanent magnet synchronous motors, the truck delivers a peak power of 170 kW at the front and 150 kW at the rear, ensuring stable and ample output. Energy storage comes via a lithium iron phosphate battery produced by FinDreams, which supports external charging to balance efficiency with convenience.
The Shark pickup debuted overseas first, and Fangchengbao officially folded the model into its product lineup this May. Now that the MIIT filing is secured, the domestic rollout is accelerating—set to broaden the range of choices in China's new energy pickup market.
