BAW to invest in Huanan production base

Shanghai January 20 (Gasgoo.com) Beijing Automobile Works Co., Ltd. (BAW) has signed an agreement with Guangzhou Baolong Group to invest at Baolong's Huanan production base, the company announced yesterday. The factory will be responsible for producing SUVs, MPVs and crossovers. BAW promised that the company would attain full production capability within two years.
 
In its introduction, the company announced that construction of the complex would take place in two phases. A total of 50 billion yuan ($7.6b) would be invested in the program, with total production capability planned to be 30,000 units. The company plans to first invest 15 billion yuan in the next two years, with estimated production capability of 10,000 units. Afterwards the company plans to increase production capability to 20,000 vehicles in the second phase, while expanding production to include sedans.
 
BAW's Huanan base will become the country's fourth own brand production facility after Hunan's Zhuzhou, Beijing's Shunyi and Chongqing's Hechuan. The company is reportedly setting its sights on the eastern and southeastern markets.
