People's Daily Online - A ceremony was held to mark the start of construction at the Beiqi Foton Motor Company's East Africa Production Base in Nairobi, Kenya on April 4. Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Liu Guangyuan and Kenya's Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka attended the ceremony.

The East Africa Production Base is an important part of Beiqi Foton's plan to expand its business in Africa. The base is expected to finish construction on May 1, 2012. It will contain two production lines and be able to manufacture about 10,000 vehicles a year.

The total number of employees at the production base will likely exceed 500, with over 90 percent being Kenyan citizens. Africa is Beiqi Foton's second largest overseas market.
