Dongfeng Honda '09 sales up 28% to 210,601 units
Shanghai, January 11 (Gasgoo.com) Dongfeng Honda, a joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Group and Honda Motor, sold 210,601 vehicles last year, up 28.4% from a year earlier, media said over the weekend.
Honda Motor on Friday said that its China sales in 2009 rose 22.5% to 576,223 units from 470,458 units in 2008. Sales in December hit 59,002 units, up 42.3% from a year earlier. The sales were mainly achieved by the Japanese carmaker's two joint ventures in China.

China '09 auto sales hit 13.6M units as world's No. 1
Shanghai, January 11 (Gasgoo.com) Vehicle sales in China last year rose 46.2% to 13.64 million units, according to an industry group's data issued today, and the country overtook the U.S. as the world's largest auto market for the first time, media reported.
Vehicle sales in December alone rose 91.7% from a year earlier to 1.41 million units, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said. Passenger car sales in the last month jumped 88.7% year on year to 1.1 million units, pushing full-year sales up 52.9% in 2009 to 10.3 million.
China's auto sales in 2010 may reach 15 mln units
Shanghai, January 12 (Gasgoo.com) China's auto output and sales this year are expected to rise about 10% to 15 million units, Xinhua News reported yesterday, citing an industry official.
In 2010, the Chinese government will continue to support the auto industry, which is seen as a pillar of the national economy, said Dong Yang, executive vice president and secretary general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
Mercedes '09 China sales up 77% to 68,500 cars
Shanghai, January 12 (Gasgoo.com) Daimler AG's premium car division Mercedes-Benz said it sold a record 68,500 cars in China last year, up 77% year on year, Reuters reported today.
Mercedes-Benz, which competes with BMW among others globally, said its record sales of 68,500 cars in China last year beat its previous target of 65,000 units.
Sales of its new generation S-Class came to 15,000 units, while the C-Class model achieved total deliveries of more than 16,000 units, making it the best-selling car in the Mercedes-Benz family. Sales of the all-new E-Class model, launched in July, totaled 8,200 units.
BYD to start selling e6 crossover in U.S. this year
Chinese automaker BYD says it's going to bring its electric e6 crossover vehicle to the U.S. by the end of the year. It made the announcement today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The e6 is a five-passenger family hauler. BYD says will it have more range and capability than a lot of the other electric vehicles coming to the market because it has a unique battery chemistry. As a result, BYD says the e6 can go from zero to 60 mph in less than 14 seconds, achieve a top speed of 140 miles per hour and that it will have a range of 205 miles.
BMW '09 China sales up 38% to 90,536 cars
Shanghai, January 13 (Gasgoo.com) BMW, the world's biggest maker of premium cars, said today that it sold 90,536 cars in China last year, up 38% year on year, Reuters reported.
BMW's sales in mainland China in 2009 included its BMW and Mini brands, which came to a record 90,536 units, from 65,822 units sold in 2008, the German car company said in a statement.
Geely sales in Dec more than double to 43,446 cars
Shanghai, January 14 (Gasgoo.com) Geely Auto said yesterday that its car sales in December more than doubled to 43,446 units from a year earlier, Dow Jones reported.
For the whole year of 2009, the Hong Kong-listed company of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group sold 325,413 cars, increasing 59% from the previous year and exceeding its '09 sales target of 250,000 units, with sales in December soaring 108% year on year and up 23% from November.
Audi brand '09 China sales up 33% to 158,941 units
Shanghai, January 14 (Gasgoo.com) Volkswagen AG's luxury Audi brand sold 158,941 cars in China last year, up 32.9% from 119,284 units sold in 2008, media reported.
In December, Audi sales in China, the premium German brand's biggest overseas market, rose 76% to 19,069 cars. The company sold 949,700 vehicles worldwide last year, a decline of 5.4% over the record high set in 2008, with December sales down 4.2% to 79,300 cars.
Nissan car '09 China sales up 48% to 518,968 units
Shanghai, January 15 (Gasgoo.com) Nissan Motor said yesterday that its Nissan brand car sales in China last year rose 48% to a record 518,968 units from 350,520 units in 2008, Reuters reported.
The Japanese carmaker said its sales in the Chinese market, including sales of its Infiniti luxury brand, rose 39% in 2009 to 756,000 vehicles. Through its local venture, Nissan aims to sell 600,000 passenger cars in China next year, the company said earlier.
Volvo sees opportunities in China after sale to Geely
Shanghai, January 15 (Gasgoo.com) Volvo Car Corp. CEO Stephen Odell said his company's sale to China's Geely Group could create opportunities for the Swedish auto maker in the booming Chinese auto market, now the world's biggest, wardsauto.com reported.
"You have to believe that if you are owned by a Chinese manufacturer that would bring a whole lot of benefits," Odell tells Ward's at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
