China April passenger car sales down 12% from March

Shanghai, May 10 (Gasgoo.com) China's passenger car sales in April came to 1.11 million units, up 34% year on year but down 12% from March as a year-long surge in demand began to slow down, media reported today, citing a private research group.

Sales had jumped 63% in March from a year earlier to 1.26 million sold, said the China Passenger Car Association. The slowing in demand was expected after the last year's overdrive, and total sales this year is likely to grow between 15% and 17%.

Subsidies for new energy cars to be in place this month

Shanghai, May 10 (Gasgoo.com) The latest news said that subsidies for private purchase of new energy vehicles are very likely to be announced at the end of this month.

Toyota China sales up 32% to 64,000 units in April

Shanghai, May 11 (Gasgoo.com) Toyota Motor has said that the company, along with its local joint ventures, sold 64,000 vehicles in China last month, up 32% from a year earlier.

Its China sales rose 37% year on year to 242,000 units during the first four months, the largest Japanese carmaker said on Friday.

China, the world's largest auto market, is a growth area for Toyota's sales. The Japanese company sold 709,000 vehicles in China last year, up 21% and is targeting a 13% growth to 800,000 units this year.

VW to build Foshan plant to tap South China

Shanghai, May 12 (Gasgoo.com) Yesterday, the First Financial Daily learned from Volkswagen AG and its Chinese venture FAW-Volkswagen that there is the latest development with the issue of Volkswagen building two new factories in China.

FAW-VW's new plant location has been identified as Shishan town in Nanhai district in Foshan city, Guangdong province, while the new plant location of Shanghai Volkswagen hasn't been announced yet.

BMW China sales double to 12,440 cars in April

Shanghai, May 12 (Gasgoo.com) German luxury car maker BMW AG recently said that its car sales in China last month more than doubled from a year earlier to over 12,000 units, Dow Jones reported.

A spokesman for BMW said the company sold 12,440 cars in China in April, compared with 5,789 in April 2009. In the first four months of the year, BMW's group sales came to a total of 46,619 cars, up from 22,369 of a year earlier.

Mazda may form separate joint venture with Changan

Shanghai, May 13 (Gasgoo.com) At the end of last year, Japanese media reported that Ford may split its Chinese venture Changan Ford Mazda, with Changan and Mazda to establish a separate joint venture.

Now there is further progress about this. Mazda told the media that it is true that Mazda and Ford will separate the joint-venture in China. Changan Group and Mazda, however, haven't released any relevant information yet.

Dongfeng Nissan to sell 6,000 March minicars a month

Shanghai, May 13 (Gasgoo.com) Nissan Motor plan to launch its fourth-generation March minicar to the Chinese market in August this year, and its China venture Dongfeng Nissan, local maker of this car, hopes to sell 6,000 units of the Nissan March per month, China Car Times reported today.

The 1.5-liter Nissan March is the first small car that Dongfeng Nissan have introduced when global automakers are expanding into the small car segment while China's domestic manufacturers are foraying into the premium car segment dominated by global brands.

Chery Auto to develop switchable battery for EV

Shanghai, May 14 (Gasgoo.com) Differing from most carmakers' development on the plug-in electric vehicles, Chery Automobile, China's largest independent auto producer in Anhui province, is seeking a new charging solution for EVs.

On April 24, Chery signed a technical cooperation agreement in Beijing with Better Place, world's leading company on electric vehicle (EV) charging battery and service. Under the deal, the two companies will collaborate on solutions for mass-producible EV switchable battery and advanced charging network to enhance the competitiveness of China's new energy vehicles.

Jaguar Land Rover to set up sales company in China

Shanghai, May 14 (Gasgoo.com) For the first time, Land Rover showcased all of its models at the 2010 Beijing auto show, including Land Rover Freelander 2, Forth Generation Discovery, Range Rover Sport, Range and Land Rover Defender, which landed in China recently.
