Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 4) - Production of Guangqi Fiat's first Chinese-made vehicle, the Viaggio, will officially begin on June 28, autohome.com.cn reported today. The joint venture will begin selling the car sometime in the third quarter of the year.

The Viaggio (pictured) made an appearance at April's Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. While it borrows many design elements from the Dodge Dart, there are several new touches, including a new front fascia and chrome highlights. The Viaggio is designed on the same CCUSW platform that the new Alfa-Romeo Giulietta is based on. It sports a wheelbase of 2.71 m, making it more spacious than its rivals.

The Viaggio is powered by a 1.4 L T-Jet turbocharged engine, which will be available in two different power configurations. The stronger of the two boasts a maximum output of 150 hp. It is driven by either a five-speed manual transmission or Fiat Powertrain's newest six-speed Dual Dry Clutch transmission.
