Shanghai January 19 (Gasgoo.com) The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MII) issued its report on the state of the Chinese automotive industry in 2010 yesterday. Among its findings, the MII stated that in 2010 domestic automobile sales rapidly increased, own brands’ market share grew, vehicle exports gradually recovered and large enterprises' sales scope expanded. The market also took a further step towards better accommodating customer demand, the report said.

The report found that as own brands grew in size, they made substantial gains in market share. In 2010, domestic sales of own brand passenger vehicles reached 6,273,000 units, constituting a 45.6% share of the market. The figure represents a 1.5% increase from the previous year. Among the total 9,494,300 sedans sold in the country, 2,933,000 cars were from own brands, representing a significant 30.9% of the market.

Additionally, many leading figures in the industry announced that in response to rising gas prices, a great deal of effort would be put into researching, developing and producing energy-efficient and new energy vehicles. According to the MII report, energy-efficient automobiles made significant inroads in the market last year, which also marked the implementation of a new energy-efficiency program jointly put out by the MII, National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Finance. By the end of the year, a total of 272 models from 37 different companies were included in the program. Their combined production of over 1.68 million vehicles made up 24% of total automobile production in 2010, 17% higher then the year before.

Expansion in energy-efficient and new energy vehicles was also evident in other domains last year, with total the total number of cities providing public service for said vehicles increasing from 13 to 25. In addition, six cities introduced test locations providing subsidies for personal new-energy car buyers.
