Here are the major developments in embodied intelligence and assisted driving this week:
WAIC 2026: Over 300 Humanoid Robots Face Off
The 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) took place in Shanghai from July 17 to 20. This year's event drew over 1,100 exhibitors—a sharp rise from 400 in 2023 and 800 in 2025—showcasing more than 3,000 exhibits.
In the embodied intelligence sector specifically, participating companies surged from over 80 last year to more than 200 this year. The event featured 208 embodied intelligence terminals and over 300 physical robots.

But beyond the numbers, the shift in capability is more telling. At last year's WAIC, robots capable of performing actual work were rare; most were just learning to walk, dance, or grasp objects.
This year, the conversation among exhibitors and clients has shifted to tougher questions: Can robots work continuously for 24 hours? Can they execute tasks based on vague instructions? And can they be deployed at scale? The industry's evaluation framework has clearly changed.

Xiaomi Robot Reveals Factory "Report Card"
On July 14, Xiaomi's robotics division released an update on the four-month training of robots at its auto factory. Since arriving early this year for hands-on line work, Xiaomi's humanoid robots have expanded from single-station trials to multi-scenario industrial operations. Precision, stability, and coordination have steadily improved, achieving breakthroughs in complex flexible tasks within the final assembly workshop.
Specifically, the success rate for double-sided self-tapping nut loading climbed from an initial 90.2% to 98%—just 1% shy of human benchmarks. Station stability is now approaching mass-production standards.
While solidifying performance at existing stations, Xiaomi robots have also unlocked two new roles in final assembly: sorting center console side covers and folding recycling bins. Both new scenarios achieved a stable success rate of 90%.
Overall, Xiaomi's humanoid robots have transitioned from basic trials to complex flexible industrial work, steadily accumulating engineering experience for real-world smart manufacturing deployment.

Joyson Electronics Unveils Core Components Including Dexterous Hands and Solid-Liquid Hybrid Batteries
On July 17, Joyson Electronics (600699.SH/0699.HK) unveiled several innovative solutions for embodied intelligence at WAIC 2026. These include dexterous hands, solid-liquid hybrid batteries, third-generation AI head assemblies, electronic skin, and embodied agent "brains," alongside the latest results in industrial robot training and application.

Joyson's self-developed "Lingxi" (TeleHand) dexterous hand series features a professional version with a unique "in-palm integration + hybrid drive" design. It integrates direct drive, tendon, and linkage mechanisms within the palm, offering 20 degrees of freedom. A more cost-effective basic version was also released.
The company's third-generation AI head assembly combines perception, motion, and system integration. Powered by large language models, it enables more natural head postures and emotional expression.
For the robot "brain," Joyson introduced its embodied agent solution (EAOS+EAPC). The host unit uses a "large and small brain" fusion controller with computing power ranging from 40 TOPS to 2,070 TFLOPS. It adapts across different bodies and scenarios and has recently been deployed in real-world industrial and automatic charging settings.
On the power front, Joyson has built a full-scenario energy solution portfolio. This includes the "Junen" solid-liquid hybrid battery pack series, bidirectional wireless robot charging, and high-density energy converters, meeting the diverse development needs of embodied intelligence robots.

Zhongding Opens First DUDUONE Robot 6S Store
On July 16, Zhongding Holding opened the first DUDUONE robot store in Baohe, Hefei.
The DUDUONE 6S store focuses on display experiences, integrated rental and sales, and scenario co-creation to build a full-scenario service platform. This marks Zhongding's leap from "manufacturing products" to "operating an ecosystem." Starting here, Zhongding plans to expand the model nationwide, aiming for 200 city-level 6S stores to build a standardized robot service network.
In core components, Zhongding has achieved mass production of harmonic reducers and force sensors. For whole-machine manufacturing, it partnered with LimX Dynamics and Kexian Flexible Technology to establish Dingli Kexing. The company has built a leading flexible skin factory and a fully automated assembly line in Baohe, bridging the gap from core components to finished robot rollout.
To elevate robot services, Zhongding's subsidiary Kekbao signed a strategic partnership with Cloud Wisdom. They plan to form a joint venture for robot application development, leveraging LimX Dynamics' high-mobility robots to inject strong digital operations capabilities into the service network.

JD.com Breaks Ground on First Global RoboBase Project in Guangzhou
Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Government signed a comprehensive strategic agreement with JD.com, simultaneously launching the groundbreaking for JD Industrial Development's RoboBase project. The two sides agreed to cooperate in nine areas, including consumption, logistics, the digital economy, and smart healthcare. RoboBase is the first physical project to materialize under the deal.

Located in Guangzhou Science City, the project covers a total floor area of about 190,000 square meters. It integrates R&D, manufacturing, pilot testing, headquarters, and exhibition functions. Construction is expected to finish by the end of 2028, with production starting in 2029 and full capacity reached in 2030. The annual output target at full capacity is 1.75 billion yuan.
JD.com calls this its first global RoboBase for robotics, serving as the core carrier for its "Robot and AI" strategy over the next five years. The aim is to build an integrated "R&D—manufacturing—application—service" loop.
However, JD Industrial Development clarified that it does not position itself as a direct robot manufacturer. Instead, acting as an "industrial infrastructure operator," it provides services to upstream and downstream enterprises across four dimensions: supply chain, technology, scenario, and capital.

Black Sesame Technologies Completes Acquisition of Yizhi Electronics
On July 14, Gasgoo learned from official sources that Black Sesame Technologies has completed its acquisition of Yizhi Electronics. This move is a key strategic step for Black Sesame to perfect its edge AI layout and expand coverage across all inference computing scenarios.
With the acquisition finalized, Black Sesame's complete matrix of edge AI inference computing power is now in place. The company's Huashan and Wudang series SoCs have long focused on high-compute core tracks like ADAS, Robotaxis, robot brains, and local AI BOX deployment, building a defensive moat in high-end inference.
Yizhi's SV, SH, and SA chip product lines cover smart automotive, smart hardware, and smart security—three massive terminal markets. They precisely fill the gap for cost-effective, low-power computing ranging from 0.5 to 2 TOPS.
Additionally, the parties will jointly plan a 2-to-10 TOPS mid-range, high-reliability chip product line. This targets the cost-effective needs of emerging scenarios such as forward-facing integrated cameras, robot vacuums, and lawn-mowing robots.

Mercedes-Benz China Partner Boshi Group Teams Up with UBTech
Boshi Group, a strategic partner of Mercedes-Benz in China, has recently become UBTech's first official authorized partner for biomimetic humanoid robots in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, signing a strategic sales cooperation agreement.

Under the agreement, Boshi Group will sell UBTech's ultra-biomimetic humanoid robot, the Uworld U1, across Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. Sales will leverage Boshi's network of Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai 4S dealerships. Together, they aim to build a complete industrial loop integrating "tech R&D + channel operations + scenario deployment + after-sales service."
Previously, Boshi Group launched the world's first "Dual 4S Fusion Mode" robot experience store, "Mechanical Eden," at its Beijing Boshi Ruida Mercedes 4S outlet. Boshi Group and Mechanical Eden are now the first official authorized partners for UBTech's full robot lineup in the region, fully handling product experience, scenario deployment, standardized delivery, and official maintenance for the Uworld U1.
Moving forward, UBTech's Uworld U1 robots will be deployed in batches to the Mechanical Eden experience spaces across multiple Boshi Group stores.

LimX Dynamics Closes Nearly $200 Million Pre-IPO Financing Round
LimX Dynamics, a general-purpose humanoid robot company, has recently closed a Pre-IPO funding round of nearly $200 million. This brings its total fundraising over the past six months to $400 million, laying the groundwork for future capital market activities.
LimX Dynamics stated that the funds will focus on breakthroughs and productization of "large and small brain fusion" technology. The goal is to drive the scaled deployment of thousands of fully autonomous humanoid robots. Plans include refining global manufacturing and delivery capabilities, accelerating expansion in key markets like the Middle East, Europe, and other Asian regions, and continuing to build an open ecosystem for global developers.
LimX Dynamics has established a three-layer technical architecture: System 0, a whole-body motion foundation model; System 1, featuring VLA/WAM capabilities for humanoid robots; and System 2, an embodied agent operating system (COSA) powered by large language models and world models.
Leveraging this unique tech stack, LimX is advancing product R&D and commercialization. It has launched several products, including the full-size humanoid robot Oli, the full-size interactive humanoid LimX Luna, and the multi-morphology TRON series. The entire product line has secured thousands of orders, with over half coming from overseas markets, and the first batch of hundreds of units has already been shipped.
