This year, AQSIQ had released 23 recall notices, including 22 notices involving 1.74m vehicles from 40 models in 14 brands in January and February.

Japanese brands ranks top 3 in terms of single recall size

Data shows that among all recalled vehicles, Japanese brands occupy 82.16% with a number of 1.43m units. Dongfeng Honda, Toyota and GAC Honda ranks top 3 in terms of single recall size, with a number of 533,000, 433,000 and 382,000 units respectively.

In the submitted files, Dongfeng Honda recalls 533,350 CR-V for Takata airbag problem, and Toyota recalls 433,338 RAV4 for rear seat safety belts reason. GAC Honda recalls 382,090 Fit, City and Everus S1 for airbag reason. Considering the “Takata airbag” impact, analysts say it’s possible to see more Japanese vehicles to be recalled in China.

Complaints for luxury vehicles increase

The 23 recall notices involves only ten luxury models, including Lexus SC430, Genesis, Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q5, Audi SQ5. Acura has the largest recall size of 12,019 units, while other models’ recall numbers are all below 1,000.

However, complaints for luxury vehicles are increasing. In the same time, domestic self-owned brands are increasing their recall plans. At least five self-owned brands have submitted plans to AQSIQ.
