Gasgoo Munich- Chery Group's AiMOGA launched MOBO, its first consumer-grade humanoid robot designed for home companionship, and opened global pre-orders at an event in Wuhu, Anhui province, on October 21.

Key Takeaways

·MOBO stands 0.9 meters tall and has 22 degrees of freedom supporting walking and other body movements, according to AiMOGA Robotics.

·Designed for multigenerational households, the robot provides object-recognition queries, stories and English-language interaction for children, as well as conversation and user-configured reminders for older family members. It supports interaction in more than 20 languages.

·AiMOGA said the robot can process 16 tasks in parallel and respond to interruptions in less than 0.2 seconds, allowing it to pause and subsequently resume tasks.

·The company said MOBO had attracted interest from more than 10,000 prospective users worldwide since appearing at the World Robot Conference in August.

·Zhang Guibing, AiMOGA's general manager, said AiMOGA' cumulative global sales have exceeded 3,000 robot units, covering more than 100 application scenarios, while its products and services have entered over 60 countries and regions.

Technology and features

MOBO's system comprises spatial-perception, interaction, execution, and decision and cognition layers. Together, they support environmental awareness, language and gesture processing, physical movement, task planning and memory.

Spatial memory combines real-time perception with historical information to support object searches and task execution. Its social-navigation system identifies pedestrian movement and interaction spaces, allowing the robot to slow down or alter its path around people.

The self-developed MoAgent embodied-intelligence system uses a dual-process architecture combining longer-term planning with immediate responses. In a workplace demonstration, MOBO answered an unscheduled query while carrying out notification and inspection duties before returning to its original task.

For longer-term interaction, the robot organizes factual, episodic and experiential memories in separate layers and links access to individual users through FaceID. AiMOGA said data eligible for cloud processing is anonymized and checked on the device before being transferred to MogaCloud for learning and validation.

Market rollout

AiMOGA plans to collect feedback from an initial group of customer experience participants on daily interaction, reminders, task execution and long-term companionship. The company said it will use that feedback, together with household usage patterns in different markets, to refine the robot's functions, interactions and services.
