Founded in 1878, Germany’s TMD Friction Group is a leading manufacturer of brake friction materials. Its portfolio includes disc and drum brake pads for passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as racing and industrial applications. The group operates production bases in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, with over 4,200 employees, 11 factories, and four R&D centers.
The new Pinghu facility will serve as TMD Friction’s integrated China headquarters for management, production, and R&D. It will also house an Asia R&D center linked to the group’s global network to provide braking solutions for the Asia-Pacific market. Phase one construction is scheduled to begin in April 2026, with production expected to start by mid-year.
The project will expand Pinghu’s national auto parts cluster and strengthen the synergy between complete vehicles and core components. It will also boost the region’s high-end and intelligent by-wire chassis sector, benefiting both the company and the local economy.
TMD Friction already operates joint venture production bases in Hangzhou and Shijiazhuang, and a wholly-owned R&D center in Jiading, Shanghai. The new Pinghu project marks a strategic move as the company deepens its presence in the Chinese market.
