Approximately 264m vehicles currently on Chinese roads

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai January 29) - There are currently 264 million motor vehicles on Chinese roads now, 154 million of which are automobiles, the China Business Times reported today. The number of drivers in the country has exceeded 300 million, with 246 million of those being automobile drivers.

According to officials from the Ministry of Public Securities’ Department of Traffic Control, the increase in vehicles and drivers is due to the stable growth of the economy. A total of 21.88 million new drivers registered, representing a new record for the country.

There are 35 cities in China which have over 1 million vehicles. Beijing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Shanghai, Suzhou, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Zhengzhou each have over 2 million vehicles on their roads.

According to statistics, there are a total of 63 vehicles for every 100 households in Beijing; that amount is over 40 vehicles in Guangzhou and Chengdu.

Statistics also show that annual growth for the last five years has been over 15 million vehicles, while the number of drivers has been increasing at an average of 20.57 million people a year.
