Gasgoo.com (Shanghai March 14) - There has been a new development in the Volkswagen DSG gearbox scandal, with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine holding meetings again with the manufacturer to discuss the issue, Xinhua reported today. AQSIQ has requested VW to find a solution to the problem as soon as possible.
According to sources from AQSIQ, their department has received numerous complaints from VW owners about strange noises and vibrations emitting from the DSG gearboxes in their vehicles, with others complaining about problems during shifting. AQSIQ has already forwarded all of the complaints to Volkswagen Group China and the manufacturer's two Chinese joint ventures, FAW-VW and Shanghai VW. The department has also begun inspection work on the problem.
VW had already supplied AQSIQ with technical information on the issue earlier this month. The manufacturer had previously planned to implement a software update to remedy a problem in the DSG gearbox's control unit. According to VW, since the problem does not pose a safety risk, it will not issue a recall of affected vehicles. However, the AQSIQ worries that the solutions VW has offered may not be enough to solve all of the problems owners have found with the gearboxes, and has asked the manufacturer to make further technical inspections.
According to internal sources, AQSIQ has asked VW to seriously handle the issue. The department has pushed the manufacturer to do further technical analysis and employ effective solutions to protect the safety of its customers. Meanwhile, the AQSIQ has also begun researching whether or not there are any flaws in the gearbox, if any are found, it will order a vehicle recall in accordance with national laws.
