Shanghai, June 18 (Gasgoo.com) According to a recently signed contract, Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd. (BAIC) will build the production base of its own-brand passenger car in the suburban district of Shunyi.

For the time being, all the vehicles manufactured in this city are foreign brands. The base will start its construction at the end of July and is expected to be put into operation next year. The expected production capacity will reach 300,000 units in 2013.

The total investment of this project is 4,2 billion yuan ($615 million). It is going to build a base of four high-end workmanship processes so as to establish an R&D and manufacturing system for its own brand.

In addition, the pressing center, a project in cooperation with Shougang's cold rolling plant, will serve all the vehicle business of Beijing Auto and spread its service to some supporting enterprises in Changping, Huairou and Miyun.

Although Beijing Auto hasn't officially named the self-owned brand passenger car, the logo has been initially designed.
