Brazil's vehicle production amounted to over 2.4 million units in the first eight months of 2010, up 17.4 percent year on year, the National Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (Anfavea) said on Wednesday.
In August, vehicle production reached 329,092 units, up 3.4 percent from July and 11.5 percent compared with last August. Lower default rates, higher credit, and the rise of employment attributed to this increase, Anfavea said.
The production of cars and light vehicles rose 3.7 percent in August from July, reaching 307,897 units. The production of buses jumped 12.2 percent to 4,333 units, while the production of trucks fell 4.5 percent to 16,862 units.
In the first eight months of 2010, the production of cars and light vehicles was up 15.2 percent to 2.24 million units, while bus production grew 392 percent, reaching 31,855 units, and truck production gained 703 percent to 124,070 units.
Vehicle exports totaled 65,436 units in August, down 1.5 percent from July. From January to August, exports were up 73.2 percent, reaching 489,236 units.
Anfavea expects vehicle production to reach 3.39 million units by the end of 2010.
