Shanghai, February 10 (Gasgoo.com) There were 1.361 million vehicles recalled in China last year, according to the country's quality regulator. That included 1.2798 million domestically made vehicles and the others were imported vehicles.
Toyota Motor had more frequent and larger-scale recalls in China. In late August, Toyota start to recall 688,314 Camry and other sedans made at its two joint ventures in China due to electronic window control defects. On December 30, the Japanese carmaker began to recall 43,023 imported vehicles due to possible engine oil leakage.
In December, Changan Ford Mazda, Ford Motor's passenger car joint venture in China, recalled 11,112 Volvo S40 sedans because of an oil pump flaw. Meanwhile Ford was also recalling Ford Windstar, Econolin and Explorer cars in China. That month, Southeast Motor recalled 2,056 Lingyue sedans because of engine flaws.
In November, Jaguar Land Rover Auto Trade (Shanghai) Co,. Ltd. recalled 704 imported 2010 Jaguar XF sedans in China due to the fuel pipe defect. In October, Nissan Motor's Chinese venture with Dongfeng Motor Group recalled 51,813 vehicles in China due to a problem in the steering system.
The vehicle recall is becoming frequent in China, now the world's largest auto market. Toyota Motor last month recalled 75,552 RAV4 SUVs in China, compared with the company's massive recalls of 9.1 million vehicles worldwide. Chang'an Suzuki started to recall 10,326 Alto vehicles due to gas filter problems as of Feb. 5.
Chinese consumers need not overact to Toyota's callback, said an executive of the General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine (AQSIQ), adding that recalls caused by designs account for 43% of the total and the other 57% result from manufacture.
