February 2026 Sedan/SUV Model Sales Rankings: Rise of Domestic Brands, JV Share Continues to Shrink | Gasgoo Institute

Edited by Greg From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich- Data from Gasgoo Institute reveals a clear landscape in China's passenger vehicle market for February 2026 across sedans and SUVs. In the sedan sector, domestic new-energy models dominate the charts, leaving internal combustion joint-venture models with just two spots, while Geely and BYD form a powerful duopoly. The SUV market, meanwhile, sees the Tesla Model Y leading, encircled by traditional domestic brands, with emerging players holding their ground. Together, these segments confirm a seismic shift: the domestic camp now leads, and the industry is definitively driven by new energy.

February 2026 Sedan Sales Rankings

NO.1 Galaxy Xingyuan, February sales 37,859 units.

NO.2 BYD Seagull, February sales 20,190 units.

NO.3 Tesla Model 3, February sales 17,195 units.

NO.4 Volkswagen Lavida, February sales 16,135 units.

NO.5 Geely Emgrand, February sales 14,255 units.

NO.6 BYD Qin L, February sales 13,350 units.

NO.7 Geely Preface, February sales 13,152 units.

NO.8 BYD Qin Plus, February sales 12,700 units.

NO.9 BYD Seal 06, February sales 12,448 units.

NO.10 Volkswagen Sagitar, February sales 11,691 units.

The February sedan rankings paint a stark picture. Domestic new-energy brands are widening their lead, while joint-venture internal combustion models rely on their existing user base to hold the line. The industry has settled into a dynamic where domestic brands lead and JVs play defense.

The Geely Galaxy Xingyuan reclaimed the top spot with 37,859 sales, outpacing the runner-up BYD Seagull by over 17,000 units. This performance not only cements its status as a benchmark for domestic electric sedans but also highlights its dominance in the A0-class pure EV segment. Meanwhile, Geely's internal combustion models—the Emgrand and Preface—also cracked the top ten. Together with the Galaxy Xingyuan, they form a complete "NEV + ICE" product matrix, showcasing Geely's balanced strategy and multi-front strength in the sedan race.

The new-energy camp put on a strong showing overall. Beyond the Galaxy Xingyuan, four BYD models secured spots in the top ten. The Seagull, Qin L, Qin Plus, and Seal 06 span core segments from entry-level to compact family cars, becoming the vanguard of domestic NEV expansion thanks to their high value and versatility. Tesla's Model 3 held steady at third, maintaining competitiveness in the mid-to-high-end pure EV market through brand equity and its intelligent driving experience.

Only two joint-venture internal combustion models made the list: the Volkswagen Lavida and Sagitar, taking fourth and tenth place respectively. Relying on mature reputations, widespread dealer networks, and a loyal customer base, these models demonstrated resilience in the existing market, serving as the primary pillars for the JV camp against the new-energy onslaught.

At its core, the sedan market has moved beyond a simple battle between fuel and electricity. It is now a comprehensive contest of value, segment fit, and brand recognition. Domestic NEVs are rapidly iterating and using pricing and configurations tailored to local tastes to squeeze joint-venture fuel cars. JVs can only maintain volume through existing users and essential needs. As the rivalry between traditional automakers and domestic NEV brands intensifies, the sedan landscape has been overturned. A new order—led by domestic giants and driven by new energy—is firmly established.

February 2026 SUV Sales Rankings

NO.1 Tesla Model Y, February sales 31,624 units.

NO.2 Chery Tiggo 7/7 Plus, February sales 20,416 units.

NO.3 Xiaomi YU7, February sales 20,196 units.

NO.4 Chery Explore 06, February sales 18,292 units.

NO.5 MG ZS, February sales 16,954 units.

NO.6 BYD Song Pro, February sales 16,456 units.

NO.7 Li Auto i6, February sales 16,007 units.

NO.8 Geely Binyue/Binyue Pro, February sales 15,439 units.

NO.9 Chery Omoda, February sales 14,557 units.

NO.10 Geely Boyue L, February sales 14,484 units.

February's SUV rankings highlight a diverse competitive landscape: traditional domestic brands are surging, pure electric models lead, and emerging forces are making their mark. The Tesla Model Y dominated with 31,624 sales—the only model to breach the 30,000-unit mark—further solidifying its status as a pure-electric benchmark through brand strength and delivery capabilities. Chery's Tiggo 7/7 Plus and Xiaomi's YU7 followed in second and third with 20,416 and 20,196 sales respectively. With a razor-thin gap between them, they join the Model Y in forming the SUV market's top tier.

Chery delivered a standout performance in February. Three models—the Tiggo 7/7 Plus, Explore 06, and Omoda—landed in the top ten, making it the brand with the most entries. This demonstrates Chery's robust product matrix and sustained competitiveness in the SUV sector. Geely maintained steady output with the Binyue and Boyue L, while the MG ZS continued its reliable market run. Together, they form the core of the domestic internal combustion camp, holding a solid foundation in the mainstream family SUV market through mature product offerings and value.

Joint-venture brands were once again entirely absent from the SUV rankings, extending the trend seen in January. This underscores how their market share is being relentlessly squeezed by the dual forces of accelerating new-energy penetration and rapidly improving domestic product capabilities. Overall, the SUV market in February 2026 has entered a new phase: foreign brands lead the head of the pack, but domestic brands dominate the broader field, with new forces and traditional players competing on the same stage. New players are securing ground through technology and experience, while traditional domestics flourish with mature products. As new energy and internal combustion vehicles develop in tandem, competition will increasingly focus on technology and user experience, driving the industry toward higher-quality evolution.
