The production line for the Bozhi 4X Robotaxi was jointly developed by GAC Toyota—home to one of Toyota's global benchmark plants—and Pony.ai. To meet the stringent safety and reliability requirements of autonomous ride-hailing vehicles, the line fully incorporates the Toyota Production System (TPS). Dedicated processes for production management, quality assurance, and safety oversight embed Toyota's QDR principles—quality, durability, and reliability—throughout the entire manufacturing cycle, laying a solid foundation for large-scale operations.

The achievement reflects years of sustained collaboration between Pony.ai and Toyota. Since 2019, the two sides have steadily advanced Robotaxi development and industrialization, launching multiple Pony.ai autonomous vehicles built on Toyota platforms. A joint venture was also established to support the design, manufacturing, and operation of Robotaxi fleets at scale.

The Bozhi 4X Robotaxi is equipped with Pony.ai's Gen-7 autonomous driving system for passenger vehicles. Drawing on technologies extensively validated in complex urban environments such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, the system has been optimized at the architecture level for diverse operating scenarios.

In practical terms, all critical autonomous driving components now meet full automotive-grade standards and are backed by comprehensive multi-layer safety redundancies. Hardware costs have been reduced by roughly 70% compared with the previous generation, while maintaining compatibility across multiple vehicle models and platforms. At the same time, user-facing features such as Bluetooth unlocking, voice interaction, and onboard music services have been integrated to enhance comfort and convenience without compromising safety.

According to Pony.ai, the project sets a new benchmark for deep collaboration between automakers and autonomous driving technology companies. It is also expected to accelerate the realization of Toyota's "Mobility for All" vision in China. The three partners plan to further integrate their efforts across research and development, manufacturing, and operations to systematically advance autonomous mobility services.

Looking ahead, the joint venture formed by Pony.ai, Toyota China, and GAC Toyota aims to deploy a fleet of thousands of Bozhi 4X Robotaxis by 2026, with operations planned in China's top-tier cities to deliver safe, efficient, and convenient autonomous transportation to a broader user base.
