Gasgoo Munich - On Feb 4, Foxconn officially inaugurated a 1 billion yuan new energy vehicle R&D center in the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone in Henan province.
Built by Foxconn New Energy Vehicle Industry Development (Henan) Co. Ltd., the facility broke ground in July 2024. Located within the Zhengzhou Airport Zone's auto city, it is positioned as a global smart manufacturing benchmark and an innovation engine. Its primary focus will be core R&D tasks, including NEV product planning, platform development, and vehicle manufacturing.
Foxconn NEV General Manager Li Guangyao said at the opening ceremony that the center is built on a contract design and manufacturing service model. By leveraging digital R&D and efficient coordination between smart factories and the supply chain, the company has successfully slashed the development cycle for new models to 24 months.
Looking ahead, he noted that the center will work with partners to build an open, collaborative industrial ecosystem in key areas like next-generation electronic-electrical architecture and intelligent driving. This launch marks a critical step in Foxconn's strategic expansion in Henan province.

Since entering Henan in 2010, Foxconn has generated significant local employment. In recent years, the company has ramped up its investment in the province, establishing joint ventures focused on precision manufacturing of high-end electronics. It has also pushed forward the construction of a new business headquarters, expanded mobile phone production lines, and developed modern employee communities.
A representative from the Zhengzhou Airport Zone Management Committee noted that Foxconn's NEV business has rapidly built a full industry chain layout in the zone—spanning from R&D and trial production to mass production. This trajectory began with the establishment of a trial production center in 2024 and culminates in the launch of this new R&D center.
The center's activation is expected to further strengthen the Zhengzhou Airport Zone's capabilities in R&D and manufacturing agglomeration within the NEV sector, injecting fresh momentum into the regional industry's development.
