DiDi's Robotaxi R2 Begins Passenger Service
DiDi Autonomous Driving's Robotaxi R2 has recently begun unmanned passenger testing in designated areas of Beijing and Guangzhou. Developed jointly by DiDi Autonomous Driving and GAC Aion, the R2 uses DiDi's L4 full-stack hardware and software solution and is equipped with 33 sensors, including 10 digital LiDAR units.
The R2 combines four RoboSense EM4 "1,000-line" long-range LiDAR units with six E1 solid-state blind-spot LiDAR units to provide long- and short-range perception coverage. The EM4 offers a detection range of up to 600 meters, while the E1 features a 120° × 90° field of view for eliminating near-field blind spots. RoboSense reported total LiDAR sales of 719,200 units in the first half of 2026, up 169.6% year-on-year, including approximately 282,600 units for robotics and other applications, up 510.4%.
Great Wall Motor's August Sales Reach 113,396 Units
Great Wall Motor delivered 113,396 vehicles in August, up 4.93% month-on-month, bringing its January-August sales to 805,358 units, up 1.98% year-on-year. Its global cumulative sales have surpassed 17 million vehicles, while overseas sales increased 38.42% year-on-year and NEV sales grew 8.55% in August.
HAVAL remained the largest contributor with 64,960 units sold in August, up 15.44% month-on-month, while the new Great Wall H10 delivered 10,178 units in its first month. WEY sold 7,367 units, TANK SUVs 17,737 units, and ORA 11,018 units, up 110.95% year-on-year. Great Wall Pickup sold 12,288 units, including 6,518 overseas. The company continues to expand in markets including Indonesia, Chile, Pakistan, and Australia.
BYD Expands Wiring and Stamping Capacity in Shaanxi
BYD's new energy vehicle components base in Fufeng, Baoji, Shaanxi, has launched another major recruitment drive, planning to hire 2,200 employees on top of its existing workforce of approximately 7,200. The expansion follows the relocation of BYD's wiring harness production lines from Xi'an to Fufeng, with the number of production lines now reaching 87.
The base is also expanding beyond wiring harnesses. On August 26, a newly built frame stamping production line began operations, with a 32,760-square-meter workshop, 10 planned automated lines and 14 progressive die production lines. At full capacity, the facility is expected to produce up to 100,000 vehicle sets of components per month and generate approximately RMB500 million in additional annual output value. The components are primarily intended to support BYD's vehicle manufacturing base in Xi'an, about 100 km away.
