Pony.ai Surpasses 100 Million Kilometers of Autonomous Driving

Chinese autonomous driving company Pony.ai has surpassed 100 million kilometers of autonomous-driving mileage worldwide, marking a major milestone as the industry moves toward large-scale commercialization.

Pony.ai's Robotaxi business is growing rapidly. Its fleet exceeded 1,700 vehicles by May, and the company has raised its year-end target to more than 3,500 vehicles. Robotaxi revenue surged nearly 400% year over year in the first quarter of 2026.

Pony.ai is also expanding into autonomous freight. Its fourth-generation L4 autonomous heavy truck has entered mass production, with vehicles set to serve highway logistics, ports and dedicated freight routes.

The company says autonomous-driving hardware costs have fallen 60% to 70% over the past two years, helped by economies of scale.

The 100-million-kilometer milestone highlights Pony.ai's shift from technology testing to scaled commercial deployment, across both Robotaxi and Robotruck businesses.

BAIC Group Delivers Its 40 Millionth Vehicle

Chinese automaker BAIC Group has delivered its 40 millionth vehicle, marking a major milestone 68 years after the company was founded. The milestone vehicle, an ARCFOX Wendao V9 range-extended MPV, was handed over to a customer at BAIC's R&D center in Beijing.

BAIC Group now serves multiple segments through a broad portfolio. Its proprietary passenger vehicle operations include the electric vehicle brand ARCFOX, the Huawei-backed premium marque STELATO and BAIC ORV, while FOTON anchors the group's commercial vehicle business across new energy vehicles, heavy-duty trucks and overseas markets.

Joint ventures with Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai remain another major pillar of the group. At the same time, BAIC has stepped up investment in proprietary technology, filing approximately 42,000 patent applications to date.

International markets are also playing a larger role in its growth strategy. BAIC Group said its annual vehicle exports had exceeded 300,000 units.

The company says it will focus on product quality, intelligent technology, international expansion and low-carbon development as it works toward its next 10 million-vehicle milestone.

Autoliv Expands Airbag Production in China

Swedish automotive safety supplier Autoliv has started construction of a new airbag plant in Wuhu, China, with production scheduled to begin in 2027. The facility will feature automated assembly lines and focus on airbag systems.

The project is part of Autoliv's broader expansion in China. In January, the company opened the second phase of its Jiading plant in Shanghai, positioned as its flagship airbag facility in the Chinese market.

Wuhu is a major automotive manufacturing hub and home to Chery, making it strategically important for Autoliv to move production closer to local automakers and improve supply-chain efficiency.

Autoliv's sales to Chinese automakers grew 23% in 2025, with local brands accounting for 44% of its China sales. The expansion highlights the growing importance of localization as global suppliers deepen their presence in China.
