XPENG begins mass production of robotaxis in Guangzhou
XPENG officially rolled out its first mass-produced Robotaxi vehicle in Guangzhou on May 18, marking what the company describes as China's first Robotaxi production program developed entirely through a full-stack in-house automotive platform.
Built on XPENG's flagship GX platform, the Robotaxi is equipped with four in-house developed Turing AI chips delivering a combined computing power of 3,000 TOPS, which the company claims represents the highest onboard computing capability currently available in a production vehicle globally.
The vehicle also integrates XPENG's second-generation VLA large AI model, enabling Level 4 autonomous driving functions under designated operating conditions.
According to an executive from XPENG's Robotaxi division, the company plans to launch demonstration operations in the second half of this year.
LUXEED V9 surpasses 10,500 units of firm orders within 48 hours of launch
On May 18, LUXEED, the smart EV brand between Chery and Huawei, announced that its newly launched flagship smart MPV, the LUXEED V9, secured more than 10,500 units of firm orders within 48 hours of hitting the market, underscoring strong early demand in China's increasingly competitive premium new energy MPV segment.
The V9 marks the first MPV introduced under Harmony lntelligent Mobility Alliance and officially hit the market on May 15. The model is offered in four trims — Max, Max+, Ultra, and Ultra+ — with prices ranging from 389,800 yuan to 519,800 yuan ($53,900-$71,900). Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in early June.
The strong initial order performance reflects the growing competition in China's high-end new energy MPV market, where models such as the Li MEGA and Zeekr 009 have also gained significant traction. Backed by Huawei's smart driving and cockpit technologies, the LUXEED V9 is attempting to differentiate itself through a combination of intelligent features, luxury-oriented equipment, and large-cabin practicality.
