Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 30) - Haima Auto, an independent automobile manufacturer based in Hainan, is currently researching developing a new subcompact model, the Beijing News reported today. Furthermore, Li Weisheng, head of Haima's sales division, was adamant that the new car would not be a "re-hashed Mazda6." Mr. Li said the company was still waiting for the right moment to make a new subcompact, pointing out that if sales of the S3 SUV, which the new subcompact will share platforms with, reach 5,000 Haima might be ready to make the move.

A portion of Haima's current models, including the Haima2 and Haima Family, are built on a platform bought from Mazda, leading consumers to complain about extreme similarities between the two. "[However] the new platform is completely different," said Mr. Li. "It is entirely made with customer opinions in mind." The new Haima will be priced between rival Japanese and European models.
