Honda Motor Co., the world's biggest maker of motorcycles, plans to debut an electric two-wheeler in Japan next year.
The motorcycle will be powered by a lithium-ion battery, and Honda will target sales to corporate customers, Tatsuhiro Ohyama, head of Honda's motorcycle operations, told reporters today at a test-drive event in Motegi, north of Tokyo.
Buyers may include Japan Post and companies offering home delivery, such as pizza restaurants, he said.
Ohyama declined to disclose who will supply batteries for the motorcycle, saying only it's unlikely to be GS Yuasa Corp. Honda this year began building a battery factory with joint- venture partner GS Yuasa to make packs for gasoline-electric hybrid cars.
