Increasing demand for Rolls-Royce in Malaysia

Gasgoo From BorneoPost

BorneoPost (Kuching, Malaysia) - Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd (Rolls-Royce) is witnessing an increase in demand coming from the Malaysian market given that its authorised dealer in Kuala Lumpur (Quill Motorcars Sdn Bhd) scored record sales last year.

"Ouill Motorcars posted strong growth since it opened in May 2011. This is a sign that Roll-Royce will do pretty well in the country.

"On top of that, we also see the demand to be further supported by the increasing enquiries from the East Malaysian market recently," Rolls-Royce Asia Pacific corporate communication manager Hal Serudin told The Borneo Post.

"That is the main reason the dealership decided to come here and to offer a preview of the Rolls-Royce Ghost for the very first time in Borneo.

"We decided on Kuching because this is where the enquiries are coming from," he added.

Quill Motorcars marketing manager Crystalle Lai further pointed out the company was interested in expanding into the East Malaysian market if there were demands.

"It's very hard to forecast the growth because we are serving a different niche segment of high net worth customers," said Lai.

According to Serudin, Rolls-Royce sold 3,528 cars globally last year, a 31 per cent increase from 2010 sales of 2,771 cars. The figure represented the best result in the company's 107-year history – the previous record of 3,347 cars having been set in 1978 during the Silver Shadow II era.

Strong sales growth was reported across the globe, with notable results seen in Asia Pacific (up by 47 per cent), North America (up by 71 per cent) and the Middle East (up by 23 per cent), making the Asia region the number one region in the world for Rolls-Royce sales.

"China and the US were the most significant individual markets for Rolls-Royce, with China performing slightly better than the US – China represented roughly 30 per cent of the total sales globally, a hefty increase of 63 per cent in 2011," revealed Serudin.

"The next targeted Rolls-Royce growth would be in India. The country currently has four dealerships and we plan to expand it by another more – totalling six dealership by the end of the year," he added.

In 2003 to 2007, Rolls-Royce had managed to introduce five new models of vehicles, with the latest on the line – Rolls-Royce Ghost, which was introduced in 2010.

"We have been doing very well and surely, there will be more to come.

"There are no new upcoming models in the line but we will definitely come out with an exclusive edition of the existing models – exclusively done in such a manner that it can be a collector's item for car enthusiasts," he said.

Rolls-Royce prides itself on its 'Bespoke' service. Serudin said more than half of clients who ordered a Rolls-Royce Ghost in 2011 required 'bespoke personalisation'.

The service included anything from the application of unique paint colours, coach lines and tread plates to whole vehicle designs featuring champagne sets, humidors and picnic cabinets.

In total, 56 per cent of the Ghost and Ghost Extended Wheelbase models sold around the world featured bespoke designs in 2011.

"The move to highly persoanlise Rolls-Royce Ghost models followed the increase in sales of the bespoke 'Phantom' family cars last year.

"More than eight in every ten of the Rolls-Royce Phantom models passed through the capable hands of the team's designers and skilled craftsmen, before being delivered to clients.

"Going forward, the Asian pacific market is a lucrative market where high net worth individuals will continue to demand superior quality and personalised designs and that is what we endeavour to provide," he added.
